The iPhone 16 lineup will make its debut at Apple’s “It's Glowtime” event in September, with a major update to the lineup. While the exact details of the performance and efficiency improvements are still to be announced, there's speculation that the Pro models could come with a more powerful chip to differentiate them from the standard versions. In addition, all models are expected to fully support iOS 18's Apple Intelligence feature. Let’s check the iPhone 16 features!

Everything You Should Know About iPhone 16 Features

When you are planning to buy a new iPhone 16, the iPhone 16 full specifications you should know. Scroll down for more details!

1. iPhone 16 Design

Apple explored various design options for the iPhone 16 lineup, ultimately choosing a vertically aligned camera setup with a pill-shaped bump. This new configuration allows for a slimmer profile than the previous square camera bump that fixed the diagonal lens. The pill-shaped housing contains separate wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle lenses, with the microphone located nearby and the camera flash on the outside of the bump on the back of the device.

On the left side, Apple plans to swap out the traditional mute switch for an action button to mimic the design introduced on the iPhone 15 Pro model. Below this action button, you'll find the volume control. On the right side, the iPhone 16 will feature a new shoot button located where the mmWave antenna is located in the US model. This button is conveniently located for use when the phone is in landscape mode. mmWave antenna itself will be repositioned to the lower left corner of the device.

2. iPhone 16 Colors

Rumors about the color options for the upcoming iPhone 16 series have caused a stir. Initially, speculations hinted at seven shades: blue, pink, yellow, green, black, white and purple.

However, famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo offered a different perspective, predicting that the iPhone 16 will primarily come in black, green, pink, blue, and white, excluding purple and yellow. The leaked iPhone 16 dummy model shows potential color variations, showcasing a soft pink, a deep blue-green hue, and a lively blue, in addition to the classic black and white options.

3. MagSafe and Virtual Models

The iPhone 16 series may introduce slimmer MagSafe-aligned magnets, reducing the overall size of the magnetic ring used in MagSafe-compatible cases. This adjustment may result in a more refined design for the accessory.

Prior to the release of any iPhone, case manufacturers often relied on leaked dimensions and specifications from Apple suppliers to create virtual mockups. These models allow them to design cases ahead of time, and since being first to market is lucrative, virtual models are often an accurate preview of the upcoming iPhone.

In terms of exterior design, the iPhone 16 Pro model makes minimal changes to the camera, retaining the square bump that houses the three lenses. The left side of all the virtual models includes the much-anticipated action buttons, in line with recent rumors. Meanwhile, the right side showcases the new shoot button, which sits seamlessly flush with the body, unlike the more prominent volume and power buttons.

4. Display Technology

The upcoming iPhone 16 OLED panel may integrate microlens technology to increase brightness and reduce power consumption. Microlens arrays feature billions of lenses evenly spaced within the panel to minimize internal reflections, thereby increasing perceived brightness without increasing power consumption.

While potential tweaks to the Face ID system on iPhone 16 models are coming, specific details have yet to be disclosed. An Apple supplier in the UK reportedly lost a supply contract due to Apple's intention to improve Face ID when the iPhone 16 debuted.

5. Buttons on iPhone 16

Apple introduces two new buttons for iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, one of which replaces the traditional mute switch and the other is completely new.

# Operation Buttons

After debuting in iPhone 15 Pro models, the Action Button will now be included in standard iPhone 16 models. The function of this button is similar to its predecessor on iPhone 15 Pro. Instead of the classic mute switch, the Action Button offers a variety of functions. It can be customized to perform tasks such as toggling the flashlight, launching the camera, running shortcuts, enabling or disabling Focus Mode, using Translate, and turning Silent Mode on and off.

# Shooting Button

The new shooting button (one of the iPhone 16 expected features) will be located on the same side as the power button, replacing the spot previously occupied by the 5G mmWave antenna in the U.S. models. As a result, the mmWave antenna will be relocated to the left side, just below the volume buttons.

Though mechanical rather than capacitive, the shoot button responds to pressure and touch to provide a variety of functions:

  • Tap to enable autofocus when taking a photo or recording video.
  • Press hard to take a photo.
  • Swipe left or right on the button to zoom in and out.

Additionally, there may be a gesture to switch between photo and video modes, similar to how current camera apps allow users to capture video by pressing and swiping. This capture button will be available on all four iPhone 16 models and is designed for capturing photos and videos.

6. iPhone 16 Camera Technology

iPhone 16 will retain its current primary camera with an aperture of f/1.6, while the ultra-wide-angle camera will be upgraded to f/2.2 with enhanced low-light capabilities compared to the previous f/2.4 aperture. These improvements to the ultra-wide-angle lens may introduce a macro mode for the first time on iPhone 16 models.

In addition, each iPhone 16 model will feature a dedicated shoot button for easy photo-taking. With the iPhone 16 AI features, iPhone 16 Pro models will debut a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera that promises significantly improved low-light performance.

7. 5G Modem Chips

The iPhone 16 Pro version could feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon X75 modem, which boosts the speed and efficiency of 5G connectivity. Qualcomm is touting the X75's enhancements in carrier aggregation, while its integrated sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G transceivers take up 25 percent less board space and consume 20 percent less power.

Instead, the standard iPhone 16 model is expected to integrate Qualcomm's X70 chip, which is a continuation of the chip found in the iPhone 15 series. While Apple is actively developing its proprietary modem chip and antenna setup to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm, Apple's modem chip isn't expected to debut until 2025, according to insights from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
